How-to Guide
Annotate a PDF in four steps
This walkthrough covers the entire workflow: uploading a PDF, choosing the right annotation tool, adjusting placement, and exporting a final document with all changes flattened. Everything happens locally in your browser for complete privacy.
-
1 Step 1Open Ultra PDF Editor
Navigate to the editor page, drop your PDF into the upload area, or click Upload PDF to choose a file from your device.
-
2 Step 2Choose an annotation tool
Select Text, Draw, Highlight, or Redact from the toolbar. Tool-specific controls (font size, stroke width, color) appear on the right.
-
3 Step 3Place annotations precisely
Click anywhere on the page to drop a text box, drag to draw freehand, or click-and-drag to create highlight/redaction rectangles. Use zoom presets for pixel-perfect placement.
-
4 Step 4Export the annotated PDF
Press Cmd/Ctrl + S or click Export PDF. Ultra PDF Editor rebuilds the document using pdf-lib and downloads a new file with your changes flattened in place.
Tips for faster reviews
- Use `Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z` (coming soon) to redo when iterating on contract markups.
- Run the editor offline by installing the PWA or relying on the built-in service worker cache.
- Export frequently- files save locally and never touch Ultra PDF Editor servers.
