Annotation Tools
Text annotations
- Placement: Click once to drop a text box. Drag to reposition while the box is active.
- Styling: Choose font sizes of 12, 14, 16, or 18 pt. Bold and italic styles use embedded Helvetica variants so they render consistently across PDF viewers.
- Color: Six presets cover gray, blue, red, green, purple, and black. Use the custom color input for brand-specific palettes.
- Line spacing: Each text box renders with a 1.3× line height for readability. Press
Shift + Enterto insert multi-line notes.
Draw annotations
- Pen widths: Fine (2 px), medium (4 px), and bold (6 px) strokes dynamically scale with zoom to maintain accurate thickness at export.
- Smoothing: Ultra PDF Editor simplifies line segments while preserving angles so signatures stay legible.
- Undo: Each pointer lift counts as a single annotation. Use
Cmd/Ctrl + Zto revert the last stroke.
Highlight rectangles
- Opacity: Highlights fill with a 35% yellow overlay to mimic traditional marker swatches while keeping text selectable.
- Stacking: Highlights render in creation order. Use Clear Page to reset if overlays become dense.
Redaction rectangles
- Flattened output: Redactions export as opaque black rectangles. Underlying text pixels are removed in the final PDF, not just obscured.
- Audit trail: Each redaction is timestamped internally so future releases can expose annotation summaries.
Annotation order and layering
- Annotations draw in chronological order. Adding a new highlight after text will place the highlight above the text for legibility.
- Future updates will add drag-to-reorder support via the upcoming annotation panel.
Tips for precise placement
- Zoom to 150% for signatures and legal notes. Because all coordinates are normalized, exported annotations remain crisp regardless of zoom level.
- Use keyboard navigation to flip between pages while maintaining the active tool to speed through repetitive reviews.
